Pastor Matt Moody

I was born in rural southeast Texas to a blue-collar, southern Baptist church-going family. It was also a musical family. My grandfather was a church Music Director for many years, which influenced my musical education from an early age. I had several faithful bible teachers while growing up and heard the gospel many times. The Holy Spirit led me to saving faith in Jesus Christ and His redemptive work during middle school through the faithful teachings of the people at Central Baptist Church in Kirbyville, Texas. Like all believers, I am saved by the grace of God, through faith granted by the Holy Spirit, in Christ Jesus, according to the Holy Word of God and to the glory of God and God alone.

During high school, I was blessed with several music teachers who made a great impact on my life. This propelled me to study music at Stephen F. Austin State University, where many great music professors continued to help develop my craft in vocal performance.

After my first year of college, I began dating Mindy, a beautiful young lady from my hometown, and we married about a year and a half later. Mindy coached and taught high school athletics while I finished college, and in the fall of 2006 we moved back to southeast Texas to teach in Woodville. I taught middle school and high school Band and Choir for 7 years. During that time, I taught myself to play guitar, which has served me well since I surrendered to the ministry of the gospel.

During my time as an educator, I served as a bi-vocational music director in the First United Methodist Church for two years and then another two years at Dogwood Hills Baptist Church. After this, I surrendered to the Lord’s call to full-time ministry and moved to Hemphill, Texas where I served at First Baptist Church for four years prior to coming to FCC in 2020.

Mindy and I have four children of whom we are very proud of: Marley (18), McCoy and McCray (both 17), and Maddox (11). We are all so very thankful for the opportunity to serve the Lord and His people here at FCC! Our church family has taken great care of us over the last five years, and we are so blessed to experience the love of this church!
